Privacy policy

Last updated . We kept it short because you have a drill to get back to.

The short version

You can use calwm without an account. Your progress stays on your device. If you sign in, we keep a copy so it follows you around. We do not sell your data for money. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics and ad cookies are off until you say yes.

Signing in with Google

Signing in is optional. If you do, Google tells us your email address and name, and we store them with your progress (XP, streak and answers) so you can pick up on another device. We use this only to run your account. Sign-in goes through Amazon Cognito, which stores the account on our behalf.

Playing as a guest

If you save progress without signing in, we give your browser a random guest token and store that progress against it. To be plain: guest progress is kept on our servers for 180 days. The token is a random code, not your name or email, and clearing this site's storage forgets it.

Deleting your data

Open the account menu and pick Delete my data. That removes your saved progress and your account itself, from our servers and from this device. There is no undo, and your streak goes with it. Not signed in? Clear this site's storage in your browser and it is all gone.

Analytics

When switched on, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages help. It sets cookies and sends page views and a device identifier to Google. Google Analytics loads only after you allow analytics, except where Google's own consent message manages your choice (when we use AdSense): there it loads in a cookieless mode until you consent. Outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage start on. Inside them, they start off until you choose. Otherwise everything stays off until you choose in our banner. You can change your mind any time via Cookie settings in the footer.

Besides page views we send a few events about how the site is used: game_start, game_complete (module, topic, score and XP), login (only that you signed in with Google), explain_requested (module and topic) and ad_slot_rendered (slot, size and ad provider). They carry no name, email or account id.

Ads and affiliate links

calwm may show ads from a third-party provider (Adsterra or Google AdSense; which one can change). Ad providers may store cookies and read data from your device to show and measure ads. With Google AdSense, Google's own consent message handles your choice. Otherwise ad cookies only load after you allow advertising. Ads never appear while you are playing a game.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com (opens in a new tab)) or www.aboutads.info/choices (opens in a new tab); in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu (opens in a new tab). How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services (opens in a new tab).

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out of advertising cookies and of selling or sharing your personal information.

Some links to books, courses and practice exams are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. They are labelled as affiliate links where they appear, and they never change what we recommend.

Cookies and local storage

  • calwm.consent.v1Necessary, localStorage. Remembers your cookie choice.

  • calwm.progress.ownerNecessary, localStorage. Which account the saved progress belongs to.
  • calwm.auth.refreshNecessary, localStorage. Keeps you signed in. Only exists if you sign in.
