Whiteboard: Applications of foundation models
Knowing the Applications of foundation models services is one thing. Knowing where each one goes is another. Each round gives you a requirement and a diagram with empty boxes: drag the right services in, leave the decoys out, and read why each piece fits.
Draw the design before someone asks you to.
What you will practise

A taste of what you will get
Lawyers ask questions in plain English. Answers must quote the firm's own precedents, which change every week, and cite where each point came from.
Sample design 1: Omar's research assistant. Which service fills the empty box?
- Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases
- Amazon Polly
- AWS Artifact
Answer: Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases. Retrieves the passages that match the question and adds them to the prompt (RAG), with citations.
Omar has 3,000 labelled examples of the firm's clauses (each request with its ideal clause). He wants a model that drafts in that style, and proof it beats the base model before lawyers use it.
Sample design 2: Omar's clause drafter. Which service fills the empty box?
- Amazon Polly
- Continued pre-training
- Fine-tuning on Amazon Bedrock
Answer: Fine-tuning on Amazon Bedrock. Trains a custom version of a foundation model on labelled prompt-and-answer examples.
How scoring works
- Every correct answer pays 10 XP for each difficulty level, so an easy item is worth 10, a medium one 20 and a hard one 30.
- Answer with time to spare and you can earn up to 5 bonus XP on top.
- A wrong answer pays nothing. It does not cost you anything either.
- Flashcards pay 2 XP each time you grade yourself 3 or higher.
- Using a hint costs 2 XP, so use it when it helps, not when it is comfortable.
- Finish a session on consecutive days to build a streak. Your progress lives in your browser, and signing in syncs it.
